UNITED HELD TO A DRAW

Milburn Misses Penalty at Newry

Playing the second match of their tour of Northern Ireland, Leeds United drew with Newry Town at Newry last night, each side scoring twice. United were quickly on the attack but, after Hodgson had a shot saved by Hughes, Newry retaliated and took the lead after ten minutes. Myers beating Twomey with a hard shot. United made strenuous efforts to get on terms, and they did so through Armes, who scored following a grand run down the wing. Cochrane tested Hughes, and two minutes later Hodgson, following a pass by Henry, put the United ahead with a shot from an acute angle, but Leeds missed a grand chance of further increasing their lead When Milburn hit the crossbar with a penalty shot. Shortly before the interval Barlow scored for Newry. United had all the better of matters in the second half; But the inside forwards finished weakly, and could not get the ball past the capable Hughes. In the closing stages the visitors went all out for victory, Hodgson and Henry trying hard to force the winning goal. Teams: NEWRY TOWN: Hughes; Duffy, Powell; McKenna, Bryson, Whitehouse; Barlow, Myers, Gibbs, Harvey, Jones. LEEDS U. VISIT NEWRY

Twomey's Great Display

Leeds United met Newry Town last night, the game resulting in a 2-2 draw. Leeds' visit was part of an arrangement made when Twomey, the Irish League team's goalkeeper, was transferred last season. Myers scored for Newry ten minutes from the start, and eight minutes later Armes equialised. In the next minute Leeds went ahead, Hodgson scoring. Shortly afterwards Leeds were awarded a penalty for hands, but Milburn shot against the bar. After thirty minutes Barlow levelled for Newry. In the second half there was no score. Newry were on top, but found their former 'keeper in unbeatable mood.
